
Japanese cuisine is proving to be quite a hit among Indian foodies and gastronomy enthusiasts. It especially attracts the young and health-conscious. Initially limited to 5-star hotels, Japanese restaurants are now everywhere in India, making the cuisine of the Kawaii country available to all.

The objective is to make it look so good that you feel hungry on the spot.
The Japanese use three types of noodles. The first is Udon, which this thick, chewy, and soft. Udon noodles are served hot and cold. The second is Ramen, which is made of wheat, just like Udon. However, the strands of Ramen noodles are thinner and have a nice chewy bite when cooked. Ramen is served in a hot broth with a topping of raw tofu or egg. The third is Soba. Soba noodles, made from buckwheat flour, have a strong, nutty flavour, and they taste best when served cold with a topping of sliced green onions and Wasabi.
Sukiyaki is one of the most popular hot pot dishes from the distant lands of Japan. It consists of thinly sliced beef, onions, and tofu served in a sweet soup of soy sauce, sugar, and mirin. Some restaurants may add Udon noodles to the soup.
This recipe uses meat, seafood, and vegetables prepared on a large iron griddle or teppan on a hot steel plate in the centre of a table around the diners. This dish is as dramatic as it is flavoursome!
Other than the ones described above, you can also try Gyoza and Tempura at a Japanese restaurant in Salt Lake. Gyoza is just like the momos you can find anywhere in Kolkata but with a thinner wrapping. Gyoza, which actually originated in China, garnered fame in Japan. Then there is Tempura, which is almost as famous as Sushi. Tempura is batter-coated, deep-fried pieces of vegetables, seafood, mushrooms, or meat. Tempura is light and crispy and comes with a light sauce.
